Getting a little artsy...

So... there we were having a cappuccino in the little local restaurant when I spotted the newly moved-in and expanded habby shop which I hadn't explored yet. DH was happily abandoned to have another cuppa while I walked over and pretty much ogled inch by inch, shelf by shelf. Fabric, ribbons, buttons, needles of every type, wool by the mile - fluffy, non-fluffy - gorgeous, memory wire (which I'd never heard of), beads - wooden, glass, ceramic - delicious, mini scrap sets & even mini "stained glass" sets containing all the pretty bits to make something yourself.

I eventually settled on two almost-A4 sized 'artist canvasses' that I found among larger blanks displayed in a basket on the very last section before I headed out the door, my brain filled with all the future projects I would do "one day". Got home and had barely set down the milk in the fridge and got the bread and other bits & bobs packed away before setting myself up on the coffee table. (Yes, with hindsight, this was a terrible idea because my hips felt 90 when I had finally finished --- But we sold our dining room set a couple of months ago & my PC desk is LOADED so...)

I decided there should be a leaf or leaves because I had very few colour choices in my fabric paint stock - metallic green and silver, light blue and purple. (plus a very bright orangey red which I didn't want to add to the mix!) I printed & cut out a leaf 'stencil' and began.  Was thrilled to find a big sheet of fairly waxy brown paper in the depths of my spare-room junk cupboard so that worked a treat.

Got to work with the silver and the light blue blue but wasn't very happy with my blending... (oops just noticed my foot/feet at the bottom of the photos - haha)

Did a little of the green on the inside of the leaf (right side of pic) and then got bored of that one and got into the second one before remembering to take another photo. (My trait of not wanted to finish something if it doesn't work out right the first time!)

Back to the first after having a little blending practice on the second :) - Made an edging of white dots using a wooden kebab skewer dipped in white paint.  I like the bumpy relief effect.... but it's not really visible in the photographs. Actually, my blending looks worse in these photos too - ahem - it's not quite so bad in real life... I think.

More white dot edging with a bit of purple dot edging for fun(very technical wording, I know), and then it was time to sign!
Yes, I signed rather more largely than I meant to! Ah well.

Then decided to trim a small sponge into a leaf-ish shape and plop silver prints all over.

Anyhooo - to finish, I did the same white relief dots on one edge of each little leaf and a central 'vein' on each leaf as well. And I haven't signed it yet because I transferred little dot imprints with the underside of my hand while I was finishing the dots... and I haven't fixed that yet, that's why there's no final photograph! *sorry*

  1. Makes me think of leaves covered in frost, and makes me excited for winter, even though I hate cold weather! So pretty!
